Vetiver Storms to Victory in Thrilling Queen Charlotte Fillies' Stakes
Chelmsford City Racecourse witnessed a captivating race unfold as Vetiver, ridden by David Probert, emerged victorious in the prestigious bet365 Queen Charlotte Fillies’ Stakes.
Despite Sophia’s Starlight’s early dominance, Vetiver, at impressive 12/1 odds, unleashed a burst of acceleration to secure a well-deserved triumph in the £100,000 Listed contest. Whilst there was no clear favourite in the build-up to the race, Cloud Cover had strong support and came close to challenging the leader but ultimately fell short, while Zenga claimed third place in a notable flat appearance and debut for trainer Henry de Bromhead at Chelmsford City.
Trainer of Vetiver, Andrew Balding, said “we were thrilled to win the Queen Charlotte Stakes at Chelmsford City Racecourse. She travelled very strongly, and David rode a great race. We were drawn to the race by the extremely good prize money on offer and we’re delighted to have won.”
Looking to the future he added, “next for Vetiver is possibly the Oak Tree Stakes at Goodwood.”
The victory marked a significant racecourse milestone for trainer Andrew Balding, who had previously finished runner-up in the race twice in 2019 and 2022.
This was the four-year-old Cheveley Park owned and bred filly’s first Listed win since the Eternal Stakes at Carlisle in June 2023.
The Queen Charlotte Fillies’ Stakes showcased top talent with representation from some of the UK and Ireland’s leading yards. Vetiver has written herself into Chelmsford City’s history books joining the likes of Billesdon Brook and Highfield Princess in the final one of Chelmsford City’s premier races of 2024.
