Remembrance Poem Competition
Chelmsford City Racecourse is hosting a Remembrance Raceday to honour both serving members and veterans of the Armed Forces, and to pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom.
Opening the day will be a poignant commemorative wreath laying ceremony, attended by VIP guests including the Mayor of Chelmsford, the Lord Lieutenant of Essex and uniformed military personnel. Entertainment throughout the day will feature a military band, The Twirling Union Majorettes and a performance by the Wimbish Military Wives Choir.
We invite Key Stage 2 children to write a poem reflecting on the meaning of Remembrance and illustrations are encouraged as the winning poem will be featured in the Remembrance racecard.
The winning poet will be invited to the racecourse and into the Parade Ring to experience taking part in the ceremony where they will also read their poem to the audience and broadcast on the big screen.
Closing date for submissions is Friday 27th October, please email your entry to joanne.flaherty@chelmsfordcityracecourse.com
*All current serving and veterans of the Armed Forces can apply for a complimentary pair of tickets, and kids go free.
