More International Action as 11 Enter for the Listed Queen Charlotte Stakes
The upcoming Premier Raceday at Chelmsford City Racecourse will feature the seventh edition of the Queen Charlotte Fillies Stakes, a Class 1 Listed race that has attracted a wealth of international and domestic talent.
The race boasts three notable contenders who recently competed at the Listed Edinburgh Gin Queen Of Scots Fillies’ Stakes at Musselburgh last month: William Haggas’ Pinafore, Grant Tuer’s Sophia’s Starlight, and Hugo Palmer’s Stenton Glider.
Leading the charge is Hugo Palmer’s Stenton Glider, a highly-rated (104) filly seeking her maiden Pattern race victory. Despite not winning since her debut in 2022, she has consistently performed at the highest level, finishing runner-up four times in Group or Listed races.
Last year’s runner-up trainer William Haggas has entered Pinafore (rated 100), who finished second to Jabaara (third in the Chelmer Stakes) and is a four-time winner looking for her first Listed/Group win.
Julia Augusta, also trained by William Haggas, enters the fray after a creditable run in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes (Group 2) at Royal Ascot.
Adding an international flair to the race are two entries from abroad. Henry de Bromhead, renowned for his Cheltenham Gold Cup triumph, sends Zenga, to be ridden by Jim Crowley. Chantilly-based Sophia’s Starlight represents France, the second French entry at Chelmsford City of 2024, marking a record number of international runners for Chelmsford City in 2024.
Other notable entries include Vetiver, owned by Cheveley Park Stud and trained by Andrew Balding, who has twice finished second in this race, and Cloud Cover, a five-time handicap winner.
With a diverse field featuring both domestic and international talent, the Queen Charlotte Stakes promises to be an exciting and competitive affair.
