Fred Daly Secures Maiden Professional Victory
On Thursday 6 July, 17-year-old jockey Fred Daly celebrated a significant milestone in his career by securing his first win as an apprentice at the Chelmsford City Racecourse.
This achievement marked a remarkable transition for Daly, who had previously competed as an amateur before making a successful transition to the professional ranks.
Prior to his debut as a professional jockey, Daly showcased his talent by clinching a remarkable victory as an amateur rider at Ffos Las in August the previous year. On that occasion, he rode to an impressive 27-length victory in the amateur riders’ handicap, demonstrating his potential and skill in the saddle.
Under the guidance of the prominent Newmarket trainer Sir Mark Prescott, Daly – son of trainer Declan Daly, has been honing his skills and refining his capabilities as a jockey.
In his moment of triumph at the Chelmsford City Racecourse, Daly piloted the well-bred three-year-old Pivotal filly, Orbital, to a thrilling victory, securing her first win for the esteemed Cheveley Park Stud at odds of 10/1. Daly described the race as “very tactical” and praised Orbital’s lovely travel.
Following his remarkable achievement, Daly expressed his excitement, “To ride in the colours of Cheveley Park is a dream come true, but to ride a winner in them is so special.”
He thanked William, Sir Mark, and the entire team at Heath House for their support and acknowledged the significance of this achievement in his promising career, “This all wouldn’t be possible without them.”
Daly’s victory marks the beginning of a promising career and showcases the exceptional talent emerging in the world of horse racing.
