Final Preparation for Saudi Contenders at Chelmsford
Chelmsford City Racecourse recently provided an important springboard for three Newmarket-trained horses heading out to Saudi Arabia to compete in the world’s richest race meeting in Riyadh.
Defending Saudi Cup champion Mishriff and his stable-mate and Neom Turf Cup hopeful Harrovian made the trip from John and Thady Gosden’s Clarehaven Stables to gallop on the track before flying to Riyadh.
“It’s wonderful to have a facility like Chelmsford on the door step,” said Thady Gosden. “We brought Mishriff and Harrovian for a last piece of work before Saudi.”
He added: “They are incredibly accommodating here. Everyone is very easy to deal with and it’s very kind of them to open up the track in the morning.”
Mishriff and Harrovian’s visit came a couple of days after up-and-coming trainer George Boughey brought his consistent filly Oscula for a key piece of work.
He said: “Chelmsford is great for us. It’s literally just down the road. It’s easy to just pop down here. I brought one of my highest-rated horses, Oscula, before she goes to Saudi for the Saudi Derby. It’s a lovely big open track and you can get plenty of work into them. It’s obviously very fair for racing as well.”
As ever, the racecourse was delighted to host horses for racecourse gallops and were proud to be able to help the Gosden and Boughey teams in their preparation for representing Great Britain on the world stage.
