Extreme Heat Warning Forces Cancellation of Racing on 19 July
With the Met Office having issued its first ever red warning for extreme heat for the early part of next week in southern, central and eastern England, the meeting scheduled for Tuesday 19 July at Chelmsford City has been abandoned.
This is one of five race meetings cancelled by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) across England on Monday and Tuesday as the temperature is set to soar.
Chelmsford City’s Racing Director Neil Graham said: “As ever, our primary concern is for the welfare of everyone visiting Chelmsford City Racecourse, both human and equine, and, therefore, we fully support the BHA in making this decision in such extreme conditions.”
He added, “We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused to racing’s participants and racegoers, but we hope that everyone will understand that welfare must come first. We look forward to welcoming all of our customers back to Chelmsford City on Sunday, 24 July, when we hope conditions will be a little cooler.”
The racecourse has pledged to offer a free general admission ticket to all who have purchased tickets to its afternoon race meeting on Sunday 24 July will be followed by Capital FM DJ Rio Fredrika in addition to a full refund or transfer of booking for 19 July.
