Cloud Cover Shines Bright in £100,000 Queen Charlotte Fillies’ Stakes at Chelmsford City

A year on from finishing second in the race, Cloud Cover returned to Chelmsford City Racecourse with a point to prove — and she did so in emphatic fashion, storming home to land the £100,000 bet365 Queen Charlotte Fillies’ Stakes under a supremely confident ride from Clifford Lee.
Trained by James Tate, the five-year-old mare travelled powerfully throughout the seven-furlong Listed contest, cruising into contention over a furlong out before being shaken up to lead inside the final furlong. She quickened away impressively to win comfortably, earning her place in the history books of Britain’s richest Listed Flat race.
“So very pleased to see Cloud Cover back to form and win in the Queen Charlotte, and I have to say it’s particuarly sweet because it’s £100,000 this year so Chelmsford have done very well to put up this prize money and I thought they got a really good field.” says James Tate, “I’m delighted to see Cloud Cover back in such great form and winning it so easily.”

“This marks a milestone win for Cloud Cover, already a course and distance winner, who now joins the likes of Highfield Princess, Billesdon Brook, and Vetiver among the prestigious roll of honour for the Queen Charlotte Stakes.
Ralph Beckett’s team secured the remaining podium places, with Fair Point finishing second under Rossa Ryan after staying on strongly from midfield — a clear runner-up, but no match for the winner’s turn of foot.
Stablemate Stop The Cavalry, ridden by Hector Crouch, came from the rear to snatch third, rounding off a strong showing for last year’s Arc-winning trainer.”
