Celebrating National Racehorse Week at Chelmsford City Racecourse
Celebrating National Racehorse Week
In honour of National Racehorse Week, Chelmsford City Racecourse opened its doors to members for a special day celebrating the heart and soul of the racing world—the racehorses themselves. This annual nationwide event offers a unique opportunity for local communities; to get a glimpse behind the scenes, learning about the care and dedication that goes into looking after and the welfare of these incredible animals.
In the second week of September, members and annual pass holders were invited to meet local ex-racehorse ‘I Am The Man’ (Manny). Once a competitor on the tracks, ‘Manny’ now enjoys a more leisurely lifestyle.
His current owner, Chelsea Rowe, shared with members about his racing career, his retirement, and the ongoing care he receives in his post-racing life.
Our guests were then treated to an exclusive tour of the stables, where they saw first-hand the exceptional love and attention given to the horses. It’s one thing to watch the thrilling spectacle of a race; it’s another to see the behind-the-scenes dedication from trainers, stable staff, and caretakers.
Our members were able to ask questions and learn about the daily routines, nutrition, and individualised care that goes into ensuring each horse remains in peak health and happiness.
After the stable tour, members enjoyed a behind-the-scenes look at Chelmsford City Racecourse itself. From the weighing room and jockey’s changing room to the final furlong and viewing tower, they got to explore areas usually off-limits to the public, gaining insight into how the racecourse operates on race day. This exclusive access allowed them to understand not just the excitement of race day, but the extensive preparation that goes into making every race meeting a success.
National Racehorse Week is more than just a celebration; it’s a reminder of the deep bond between humans and horses. It highlights the care and respect given to these athletes, both during their racing careers and long after their final race.
At Chelmsford City Racecourse, we are proud to be part of this incredible event, and we look forward to continuing our celebration of the magnificent racehorse.
Whether you’re a lifelong fan of racing or someone who simply loves horses, National Racehorse Week provides an unmissable opportunity to connect with these animals and appreciate the extraordinary efforts behind the scenes. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this special day—we hope you left with a new appreciation for the incredible world of horse racing!
“I was lucky enough to attend this and it was a very informative and enjoyable tour – another bonus of the membership. Thanks to all those involved in putting it on.”
