Billy Loughnane Crowned All-Weather Champion Apprentice Jockey
In a thrilling conclusion to the All-weather racing season, Billy Loughnane was officially crowned the All-Weather Champion Apprentice Jockey at Chelmsford City Racecourse, marking a significant milestone in the young jockey’s burgeoning career.
Loughnane, who has been turning heads in the racing community with his skill, dedication, and work ethic, secured the title after a series of outstanding performances throughout the season. His natural talent and commitment have been evident in every race, culminating in a second well-deserved championship title.
The championship ceremony, held at Chelmsford City Racecourse before racing commenced for the Good Friday Race Meeting and was attended by fellow jockeys, trainers, racegoers and members of the press.
“I’m delighted to win the apprentice title again this year, and it’s been another great winter. I’ve been very lucky to sit on quite a few nice horses and finish second in the All-Weather Jockey Championship too.” said Loughnane. “I love riding on the All-Weather as it’s where I started last year and I’m very fortunate to have a lot of luck on it.”
“Massive thanks to my agent, Sash Righton; jockey coach, Rodi Greene and family, who all supported me this winter!” the champion apprentice added.
Loughnane demonstrated exceptional ability, consistently finishing strong against seasoned competitors. His performances not only earned him the championship title but also admiration from fans and respect from his peers. Billy has finished the championships with a staggering 56 winners, nearly three times runner up Adrian Keeley, who recorded 17 victories.
“I’m delighted for Billy, he’s a star both on and off the track. His dad approached me at Tattersalls saying ‘my son is about to take his license out and I think he can ride a bit, he’s a good kid!’, he came in for a morning the week after and has ridden out every week since. It’s fair to say, Mark wasn’t wrong! I’m lucky to have a strong team of jockeys who ride for me on a regular basis, none more so than Billy.” Classic-winning trainer George Boughey commented.
As the All-Weather Champion Apprentice Jockey, Loughnane is now looking forward to building on his success and continuing to make his mark in the racing world. With his talent and determination, the racing community is eager to see what heights this promising young jockey will reach in the coming years.
