Beyond the Track: Chelmsford City Racecourse Staff Aid the Homeless

As part of its 10 Years of Community campaign, Chelmsford City Racecourse has pledged to give back in a meaningful way, committing 10 days of volunteering to support local charities, organisations, and community groups across Chelmsford and beyond. These essential days in-line with their 10 chosen charities, provide meaningful hands-on support to local communities that rely on public donations and volunteers. Having already dedicated several volunteering days so far during this campaign, supporting children and families to lending a hand to the elderly and vulnerable, they are well on their way to achieving their 10-day target
One of the campaign highlights was joining Sanctus Homeless Charity, a much-needed support network for the vulnerable in the heart of Chelmsford to help in their café, and shop.
The racecourse team once again stepped away from the track and into the heart of the community, offering time, energy and enthusiasm. Sanctus provides hot meals, snacks, clothing and support services for those experiencing homelessness and hardship. Here the team got hands-on in the kitchen and café helping serve food, clean tables and offer canned food and snacks for them to take away. Staff also showed their support by helping in the charity shop nearby, serving customers from the array of pre-loved goods available.
Head of Community and Charity, Jo Flaherty, reflected on the initiative:
“Our 10 Years of Community campaign is about more than celebrating a milestone, it’s about recognising the vital role community plays in everything we do. We are incredibly proud that our team has stepped forward with such enthusiasm, giving their time to support a wide variety of causes. It is a privilege to work alongside organisations that make such a difference, and each day of volunteering has reminded us that even small contributions can have a lasting impact.”
Chelmsford City Racecourse’s commitment to giving back is set to continue, with plans to build on the success of this year’s campaign and deepen partnerships with local organisations. By dedicating time, resources, and people power, the racecourse aims to ensure they also continue to be community-focused over the next 10 years.
