Marco Ghiani Secures the First Betfair Thursday Nights Jockey Championship
What a Finish to Betfair Thursday Nights!
As the autumn season wraps up, the curtain comes down on this year’s Betfair Thursday Nights too, and what a ride it’s been!
This season at Chelmsford City Racecourse was packed with unforgettable moments, and our first series of fixtures in partnership with Betfair delivered thrilling races and fantastic entertainment.
One of the big hits this season? The Betfair Jockey Leaderboard— a unique competition that added an exciting new dimension to the races. Every Thursday, jockeys battled it out for points: 3 for a first-place finish, 2 for second, and 1 for third.
The leaderboard kept us guessing week after week, with Marco Ghiani and David Egan locked in a fierce fight that kept fans on the edge of their seats as they traded the top spot.
It all came down to the remaining races at our final fixture, and the stakes couldn’t have been higher. Egan had a shot at the title if he could secure a win in the sixth race, but it was Richard Kingscote, aboard Happy Tears, who crossed the line first, leaving Marco Ghiani to claim the crown as this year’s Betfair Jockey Champion!
During the winner’s presentation, Marco shared, “I’ve always liked Chelmsford; it’s always brought me luck.”
A huge thank you to Betfair for making this season so special, and to all the jockeys who gave it their all.
Don’t go anywhere—2025 is already shaping up to be even bigger and better. The Betfair Jockey Leaderboard will be back, so get ready for more action, drama, and unforgettable moments!
