All-Weather Surface Rewaxed
Our Polytrack surface at Chelmsford City gets plenty of use throughout the year, not just on race days but with local trainers using the facilities to give their horses a racecourse gallop away from home.
Obviously the condition of the racing surface is of paramount importance to the team here and with this in mind, the All-Weather track was rewaxed in the summer in order to reduce the level of kickback.
“The surface had lost some of its binding qualities and was a little dusty so we rewaxed the all-weather track in July,” explained Clerk of the Course Andy Waitt.
“The track has felt really good since then and we’ve had positive feedback from the jockeys. There’s still a little kickback and we had it looked at again recently by someone from Martin Collins Enterprises. They were very happy with how it is bedding in and that it is very consistent across the whole width of the track with a good depth of material. We’ll have to see it through the winter but once it warms up again next spring and summer it will start to mix in really well and bed in properly. There’s always a bit of a transition period and it takes a while to settle down.”
He added, “We have a lot of horses coming for a racecourse gallop on non-race days, usually on a Sunday morning, and we are very happy to welcome and accommodate trainers in this way.”
