Showstopping Women
Racing has long been considered a men’s sport, but in recent years, it is the women who have truly taken the reins, and rightly so. Ladies Day at the races has historically been synonymous with grace, style, and a celebration of women in fashion and status. What once served as a welcoming day for women has now evolved into a platform where they shine both in their attire and in the saddle.
Fast forward to 2024, and the spotlight is no longer solely on the elegant attendees; it is equally shared with the fearless and talented female jockeys who compete at the highest levels of the sport. To honour this evolution, Chelmsford City Racecourse is proud to launch a multi-channel campaign that showcases the remarkable journeys of some of the most inspirational and successful female jockeys.
Charlotte Brew
Among these trailblazers is Essex born Charlotte Brew, who made history in 1977 as the first female jockey to ride in the Grand National. Her courage and determination broke barriers and set the stage for future generations.
Hayley Turner
Another icon is Hayley Turner OBE, a pioneer who recently celebrated her 1000th win here at Chelmsford City Racecourse. These women embody the spirit of perseverance, skill, and determination, redefining what it means to be a leading figure in British horseracing.
Our campaign aims to celebrate the victories and achievements of these incredible women, showcasing their stories and the paths they have forged for future female jockeys. Their contributions to the sport are not only inspirational but are also paving the way for a new era of horseracing where talent and dedication know no gender bounds.
