Thank you from Chelmsford City Racecourse
We wanted to thank the local community for its support at our recent fixtures, following the recent equine flu outbreak which led to our 7th February date being cancelled.
The decision of the British Horseracing Authority to cancel all fixtures nationally was not taken lightly ‐ we recognise the impact that it has had on everyone involved in racing in the surrounding area and training centres, and are grateful for the support of racegoers at subsequent racedays.
However, the welfare of our horses will always be the first priority of Chelmsford City Racecourse, and the owners, trainers and jockeys that we welcome to our course. We are proud of how British racing cares for its horses. Over 6,000 people dedicate their lives to the welfare of 14,000 horses, providing them with a level of care and a quality of life that is virtually unsurpassed ‐ an approach epitomised by the sport’s reaction to the flu outbreak.
In the coming weeks, the welfare of our horses will remain our absolute priority, and we will continue to implement a full set of biosecurity controls to ensure their wellbeing.
With the situation now returning to normal, we look forward to once again welcoming the community to our upcoming fixture on Saturday 2nd March. Thanks for your continued support.
