CATERING & CONFERENCING MANAGER

Reporting to:

Commercial Manager

Contract Type:

Permanent

Hours of Work:

40 hours per week

Due to the nature of the role, there is a requirement for flexibility of working hours, as the post holder will be required to work weekends, evenings and public holidays as required to meet the needs of the business

Chelmsford City Racecourse is a spectacular multi-purpose venue which hosts a multitude of high-profile events as well as smaller conferences and events, alongside a busy racing calendar and attracts a high volume of customers. The Racecourse aspires to deliver the very best in events catering and the Catering & Conferencing Manager role will play a key part in helping to achieve this.

The role of the Catering & Conferencing Manager is to take charge of all catering and food retail and to manage the day to day catering and hospitality services to optimise revenue, drive profit and to provide a superior service across all restaurant and food retail operations for race days, conferences and events. Line management of catering employees and managing catering casual workers is also a key part of this role.

 

The successful candidate will need to:

Have exceptional knowledge and experience of running a high-volume luxury venue;

Have a strong catering management background with experience in a similar role;

Be tenacious with strong leadership and people management skills. Experience of managing and supporting large teams of staff in catering operations is also essential;

Possess excellent organisation and communication skills;

Possess excellent customer service skills. Experience of dealing with both internal and external customers and able to respond appropriately to feedback and /or complaints is also essential;

Have excellent problem solving skills and able to demonstrate tact and diplomacy. Be solution focussed with the ability to think on feet and respond appropriately to situations;

Have strong organisation skills, with ability to pay attention to detail;

A working knowledge of GPs and Events P&Ls would be an advantage.

Due to rural location and working hours, the post holder will need a full, clean driving licence, or the ability to travel when required;

Experience of working in, or knowledge of horse racing or sports sector would be desirable.

 

They will also need to:

Be passionate about providing an unforgettable catering experience and in maintaining high standards;

Be hard working and reliable with a very strong work ethic;

Be service and results driven;

Have the ability to take control and lead in a fast-paced environment;

Have a flexible and adaptable approach with the ability to remain calm under pressure;

Have a friendly and polite disposition with the ability to put customers at ease and to build and maintain strong working relationships with staff.

ASSISTANT CATERING MANAGER

Job Summary:

Chelmsford City Racecourse hosts a multitude of high-profile events, as well as smaller conferences and events, alongside a busy racing calendar, so the role of the Assistant Catering Manager will be busy and varied.

Reporting directly to the Catering and Conferencing Manager, the Assistant Catering Manager will work in support of them on a day to day basis, to ensure that the catering provision for racing, conferences and events is of the highest standard.

The Assistant Catering Manager will deputise for the Catering & Conferencing Manager as and when required. They will need to have experience in a similar catering role and possess excellent customer service skills, so that they are able to fulfil the role and support the delivery of a first-class catering experience to customers, including in a fine dining restaurant.

 

The successful candidate will need to:

Have a strong catering background and restaurant experience in a similar role;

Have knowledge of working at a high-volume, multi-purpose venue;

Possess excellent customer service skills and experience of dealing with both internal and external customers;

Demonstrate excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to deal with customers face to face and over the phone;

Have strong problem solving skills and diplomacy; be solution focussed with the ability to think on feet and respond appropriately to situations.

Have experience of overseeing/managing casual workers and other staff when required, to ensure that the work is completed to required standard;

Due to rural location and working hours, the post holder will need a full, clean driving licence, or the ability to travel when required;

Experience of working in, or knowledge of horse racing or sports sector would be desirable, along with a background in Conference and Events.

 

They will also need to:

Be friendly and polite with the ability to put customers at ease;

Be hard working with a strong work ethic;

Have a flexible and adaptable approach with the ability to remain calm under pressure;

Be able to multi-task and to work independently;

Be positive with a ‘can-do’ attitude to work with the drive and determination to meet the required standards and customer expectation;

Have the ability to deputise for the Catering & Conferencing Manager when required.
