Inspired by the heartwarming and humbling events of Armistice Day, specifically the “There, but not There” initiative, Chelmsford City Racecourse has chosen to dedicate 2019 as their “Year of the Hero.” Each month, a local hero will be given the chance to enjoy a VIP night out at the racecourse where they and their guests will enjoy hospitality in the restaurant, have a race named after them, choose the Best Turned Out horse in one of the live races, present a prize to the winning owner/trainer and be interviewed by the raceday presenter.
Each month in 2019, a hero/heroine will be chosen from nominations received on social media, from local charities and the surrounding areas local to the course. Kick starting the year will be a “Young Carer” hero.
Awarded categories will be as follows:
January - Young Carer - TYLER HART
February - Local Charity
March - Local Heroine
April - Police Hero
May - Help for Heroes nominated Hero
June - Local Volunteer
July - Paramedic
August - Firefighter
September - Macmillan nominated Hero
October - Local Junior Hero (under 16)
November - Local Military Veteran
December - Local Teacher
In addition to the awards, complimentary tickets to the racecourse will be offered to a nominated group of 'heroes' each month as a small thank you for the outstanding contribution they make to all our lives.
Jill Turner, Commercial Manager at the Racecourse says, "We receive a lot of correspondence from local people who are doing such fabulous things for others every day. We would like to somehow recognise the work that they are doing and celebrate this fact. There are some amazing people out there who give selflessly to better the lives of others and we want to thank them from the bottom of our hearts. There are far too many to be able to thank each person individually, so we have tried to select a list which represents as many of these wonderful people as we can. We hope the local community get behind this initiative and nominate their own heroes!"
