Chelmsford City Racecourse announces

Year of the Hero

Inspired by the heartwarming and humbling events of Armistice Day, specifically the “There, but not There” initiative, Chelmsford City Racecourse chose to dedicate 2019 as their “Year of the Hero.” Each month, a local hero was given the chance to enjoy a VIP night out at the racecourse and experience hospitality in the restaurant, have a race named after them, choose the Best Turned Out horse in one of the live races, present a prize to the winning owner/trainer and be interviewed by the raceday presenter.

In 2020, the Year of the Hero returns once more - this time in association with Essex Life Magazine! In a slight change to the format, there will be six winners during 2020 and the categories include:

  • Midwife
  • Young Volunteer (under 16)
  • Special Needs Teacher
  • Youth Worker
  • Animal Worker/Carer
  • Military Veteran

Jill Turner, Commercial Manager at the Racecourse says, "We receive a lot of correspondence from local people who are doing such fabulous things for others every day. We would like to somehow recognise the work that they are doing and celebrate this fact. There are some amazing people out there who give selflessly to better the lives of others and we want to thank them from the bottom of our hearts. There are far too many to be able to thank each person individually, so we have tried to select a list which represents as many of these wonderful people as we can. We hope the local community get behind this initiative and nominate their own heroes!"
