Chelmsford City Racecourse (CCR) is pleased to announce that Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT) is using some of the racecourse's facilities as a new large scale vaccination centre in the fight against Covid-19. The centre will open today (Monday 1 February) and will be giving the vaccine to people aged 70 and over, and health and care staff. It is expected to be in operation for several months.
Fraser Garrity, Manager of Chelmsford City Racecourse, said: "We're so pleased to be able to play a small part in helping the NHS carry out this vital function for the local community. Our facilities have hosted a wide range of big conferences and events since we opened in 2015, but this is the most important task they will ever be used for.
Our ongoing reduced programme of behind closed doors fixtures continues in parallel to the centre's work, and hopefully the vaccination roll-out will see us all return to some sort of normality in the spring or summer. We're looking forward to welcoming our public customers back to CCR for a day at the races when the time is right."
The NHS is urging people only to come to a vaccination centre when invited to do so, please do not contact the racecourse directly.
